Erfurt

Erfurt, the city in the heart of Germany, welcomes people with and without disabilities.

The state capital of Thuringia is characterized by one of the best preserved medieval town centers in Germany, with richly decorated patrician houses and lovingly reconstructed half-timbered houses, dominated by the monumental ensemble of the "Mariendom" and the "Severikirche". Unique in Erfurt is the "Krämerbrücke" - with 120 m the longest completely inhabited bridge with 32 houses built on it.

Erfurt is not only an architectural pearl with more than 1270 years of history, but the city also has a rich tradition as Thuringia's economic, spiritual and cultural center. In its eventful history, the city attracted famous personalities such as Luther, Goethe, Schiller, Bach, Tsar Alexander and Napoleon.

Another Erfurt landmark is the Merchants' Bridge (Krämerbrücke), the longest series of inhabited buildings on any bridge in Europe. The Merchants' Bridge is Erfurts most interesting secular construction, initially in wood but rebuilt in stone in 1325. There were originally 62 narrow buildings along its 120-metre length, but subsequent redevelopment left just 32 buildings. Of what was once a pair of bridgehead churches, only the Church of St. Aegidius remains at the eastern end of the bridge today (impressive views from the tower, Tue - Sun 11 am - 5 pm). The Merchants' Bridge is lined with galleries, cafés and boutiques offering traditional crafts, Thuringian blue printed fabrics, hand-painted ceramics, handblown glassware, jewellery, wood carvings, antiques and delicious Thuringian specialities - perfect for browsing.

A wide range of events is available to guests throughout the year. Good transport connections and a wide range of hotels and restaurants make the "Rendezvous in the middle of Germany" an experience for all guests. The egapark Erfurt, one of the most beautiful garden parks in Germany, invites you to relax in the theme gardens and parks.

We invite you to get to know Erfurt as a modern and friendly state capital.
