<p>Attributed to Francisco de Mora, it was built, attached to the outer face of the wall, in 1590-1591 in order to implement a warehouse to sell the wine that entered the city, also housing the two major butchers.</p> <p>The relocation of the main butcher's shops led to a great number of protests, causing them to return to their original places soon after (Mercado Grande and Mercado Chico), and in exchange, the weight of the flour (control over the grain and flour that entered the city) was moved, a function that was carried out until the 19th century.</p> <p>Its construction had caused inconveniences for the ordinary transit through the Bishop's gate, mainly to the cathedral chapter. Complaints led Philip II to prescribe, in 1597, the walling up of the Bishop's shutter and the opening of a new door through the Casa de Carnicer&iacute;as, leaving the building divided in two: one served as an alh&oacute;ndiga for wine and weighing flour; and the other continued to be used as an inn for judges and captains.</p> <p>It currently houses the Municipal Tourist Office and is one of the access points to the wall.</p>
