The Espaço Valdevez: História e Arqueologia (Valdevez Space: History and Archaeology) develops a museological and informative discourse on the history of the territory of Arcos de Valdevez, covering a long chronology of almost 8,000 years between the establishment of the Republic and prehistory. The visitor is challenged to use the rooms of the building vertically; this journey will thus be a true "descent through time", while also respecting the principle of archaeological stratigraphy, i.e. from the most recent to the oldest levels. Archaeology is even the Space's dynamic motto, since the first of its rooms, exactly the entrance/exit, is dedicated to one of the greatest and most important Portuguese archaeologists of the turn of the 19th century, Félix Alves Pereira, born in Arcos de Valdevez, who dedicated a substantial part of his research life to the territory of Arcos de Valdevez.
