The church of Santiago is of Romanesque origin although it was enlarged and reformed in the XIV and XVI centuries. According to tradition it was where the knights of the Order of Santiago were armed. Its octagonal tower is a unique model in the city, topped by a completely open bell tower and a slate spire. The church was rebuilt on the initiative of Fray Francisco Ruiz, consists of a single nave of great amplitude and chapels between its buttresses, its main chapel is octagonal and of ample proportions. Access to the interior is by means of a small portico of Renaissance aesthetics but that maintains the Gothic tradition in its ribbed vaulting.
