<p>Within the suburb, outside the walls of Ajates, is built in Gothic style of the thirteenth century. In the 15th century, the D&aacute;vila family built a new main chapel, and at the end of the same century, the bishop of Plasencia, Rodrigo D&aacute;vila Valderr&aacute;bano, built an octagonal chapel attached to the chancel. The interior is very similar to the church of Santo Tom&aacute;s, highlighting its starry vault, one of the richest in the city, possibly the work of Juan Guas.</p> <p>Work on the monastery continued throughout the 16th century. The ruin of the monastery came with the French invasion, when it was used as a barracks. After the disentailment of Mendiz&aacute;bal, its most valuable pieces were dismantled and sold.</p> <p>The monastery has been restored and transformed into a municipal auditorium, where numerous cultural events take place.</p>
