Es el año 2000 la autoridad portuaria de Tarragona puso en marcha, a través del centro de estudios marítimos y de actividades del puerto de Tarragona, el Museu del Port de Tarragona. Un espacio que con el tiempo, ha recuperado y salvaguardado parte del patrimonio marítimo y portuario de nuestra costa. La especialización cultural del Moll de Costa avaló la elección de este espacio para la ubicación de este patrimonio. Un antiguo almacén de refugio acogió la exposición permanente después de rehabilitarlo como museo. Construido a mediados del siglo XX, es el edificio idóneo, dado el gran volumen de la mayoría de piezas expuestas y la amplitud de espacio que nos ofrece esta antigua nave de depósito de mercancías.
