DOWNLOAD REPORT

Located on the premises of the old Alcoutim Town Hospital, the Núcleo MuIseológico Dr. João Dias was inaugurated on 13 September 2013 and is based on the permanent exhibition on the life and work of the eminent doctor and surgeon João Francisco Dias, with the aim of perpetuating his memory and example of great merit. This museum space fulfils a dream of the Alcouteneja community and is the result of a convergence of wills: the decisive role of the Municipality and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Alcoutim, the initiative of the Alcance Association, as well as the donation of the estate by the family of Dr. João Dias. In this space, a part of the history of Alcoutim during the first half of the 20th century can be seen, the time when Dr. João Dias lived and practised his medical activity. An illustrated biography with original documents and a Documentary with several testimonies connected to the doctor and benefactor (former collaborators, patients and family members) precede the room where the consultations and operations took place. Finally, many of the medical and surgical instruments and furniture used by Dr. João Dias can be seen. (automatic translation)
