Paço de Giela
Monuments - Palaces / Castles / Towers / Lighthouses

Paço de Giela is a remarkable example of medieval and modern private civil architecture, considered one of the most important National Monuments. Its origin is deeply linked to the formation of the important “Terra de Valdevez”. Currently, the medieval tower is visible, as well as the residential building, with “Manueline” windows and a fortified entrance, mostly built in the 16th century. The tower was built in the mid-14th century, replacing an existing one in the 11th century. He is now fully recovered. For all these reasons, Paço de Giela is a must-visit place in the municipality and in the region, providing unique moments of contact between the Past and the new models of approach and heritage recovery/appreciation.
