Praia do Barril is a stunning Algarve beach located on the island of Tavira, close to the village of Pedras D’el Rei. Praia do Barril was once a tuna fishing community and its fishing houses have been converted into restaurants, cafes and shops. The anchors of the old tuna fishing fleet were placed on the sandbanks of the beach and these rusty anchors are known as the Cemetery of Anchors. Access: it is necessary to cross a narrow pedestrian bridge that rises over a channel of the estuary and then proceed on foot or by a small train that provides a regular service (about 1 km) to the beach.
